Bespoke
In addition to our standard range we offer a full bespoke service — from adapting one of our own designs to creating something entirely new from drawings, photographs, or a piece you have always admired. Below is a selection of past commissions.
Sofa with a Roof
An entirely original design made in-house from architectural drawings. A bespoke commission for interior designer Rachel Chudley, built with a structural timber roof frame and fully upholstered throughout.
Extremely Large Curved Sofa
A 3.3-metre curved sofa made for Rachel Chudley. Traditionally upholstered and built in three sections for delivery, then assembled on site. A significant engineering challenge as well as an upholstery one.
Wavy Kitchen Banquette
A sinuous, wave-form banquette seating unit made with modern materials for Rachel Chudley. This piece demonstrates our ability to work beyond traditional silhouettes and tackle sculptural, architectural briefs.
Scalloped Sofa Bed
An extremely large scalloped sofa bed, engineered to come apart in sections for delivery and reassembly on site. Made with modern materials for Rachel Chudley.
Bespoke Curved Chesterfield Sofa
An original design by the Scottish architect Robert Lorimer (1864–1929), reproduced for Arts and Crafts expert Patch Rogers — formerly of Liberty — with copper gilt Arts and Crafts style legs. A deeply researched historical commission requiring both archival knowledge and traditional upholstery skill.
Pair of Sofas for Kate Guinness Design
A pair of contemporary sofas with custom metal legs, made for Kate Guinness Design. A clean, modern commission that demonstrates our ability to work with designer-specified hardware and contemporary briefs alongside our more traditional range.
The Rockefeller Chair
The client commissioned an homage to an armchair made by Jean-Michel Frank for Nelson Rockefeller — a piece that later sold at Sotheby's for $100,000. We worked from reference photographs and archival material to recreate the proportions and spirit of the original in our own upholstery tradition.
Small Georgian Sofa
A compact sofa based on our George III model, modified to the client's specific size and configuration requirements. A good example of how we adapt our standard designs to suit individual spaces.
Oak Bench
A bespoke oak bench made from client-supplied photographs, upholstered in Ripstop Starboard from Howe of London. A robust and elegant piece built to withstand heavy use.
Oak Six-Leg Stool
A large six-legged oak stool with traditional upholstery, made to fit a specific rug. Shown here on display — a piece that demonstrates the versatility of our stool and ottoman offering.
Curved Outdoor Sofa
A curved outdoor sofa built for Rachel Chudley using modern weather-resistant materials. Demonstrates our capability to work with outdoor briefs while retaining the sculptural quality of our indoor pieces.
Hairy Cowhide Sofa
A traditionally upholstered sofa covered in hairy cowhide, made for Rachel Chudley. We are experienced in working with unusual and challenging materials, and welcome commissions where the fabric choice is as unconventional as the brief.
Buttoned Sofa from Client's Plans
A traditionally upholstered sofa with deep buttoning, built entirely from the client's own plans and drawings. A good example of the collaborative design process we offer — the client brings the vision, we bring the craft.
Exact Copy of a Client's Existing Sofa
An exact reproduction of a sofa the client already owned and loved. Upholstered using a mix of modern and traditional techniques to match the construction and comfort of the original. We are frequently asked to copy or closely replicate existing pieces — it is one of the most satisfying commissions we undertake.
Commission a Bespoke Piece
To discuss a bespoke commission, please contact us with details of what you have in mind — a photograph, sketch, or even just a description is enough to start the conversation. We are happy to provide a no-obligation quote.
