Request a Fabric Sample

Request a Fabric Sample

Choosing the right fabric for a commission is one of the most important decisions in the process, and one that benefits most from seeing and feeling the cloth in person. We strongly recommend requesting samples before committing to any fabric for a significant piece.

We can help you source samples from any of the fabric houses we work with, or advise on where to request them directly.

How to Request Samples

Email us at hello@blackbarnsofas.com with the following information and we will come back to you within two working days:

  • The piece you are considering — sofa, armchair, banquette, headboard, etc.
  • Any fabric references you already have in mind — fabric house, collection, and colourway if known
  • Your general direction — linen, velvet, woven, stripe, plain, pattern etc.
  • The room and how the piece will be used — this helps us advise on weight and durability
  • Your name and delivery address for any samples we send directly

We will either send cuttings from our own workshop stock, advise you on requesting directly from the fabric house, or order samples on your behalf where we have an account.

Visiting the Workshop

If you are local to Wiltshire, or are travelling to the area, the most useful thing is to visit the workshop and see fabrics laid over actual frames. We keep a selection of cloth in the workshop at any time and can show you how different fabrics behave on a traditionally upholstered piece — how a velvet sits differently from a linen union, how pattern scale reads on a full-size sofa versus a sample card.

Visits are always welcome. Call us on 01672 600006 to arrange a convenient time.

Fabric Houses

Most of the fabric houses we work with will also send samples directly to you or your designer. Visit our Fabrics page for a full list of the houses we work with regularly, with notes on each.
